for those of you …
for those of you who are having difficulties with their gumpaste/fondant ripping – if your design has a lot of curls (like the butterfly) then it probably needs to be a little thicker on the mat; if that’s not the case then it might need to be a little thinner. Hope that helps!
Love the video, thanks!

@bacithefencer it …
@bacithefencer it just takes A LOT of practice. If you go on the cricut forums you can find some help there. I had trial and error for about a week before I had good results and figured out what works and what doesn’t.

My sister is …
My sister is watching this with me she is a professional cake decorator and her comment is- there is a vast difference between vegetable oil and shortening-
veg oil is slippery and altho it will help you remove the fondant from the mat it will cause the fondant to slip on the sheet, Using the shortening will help removing the fondant but will “hold” the fondant and prevent it from slipping when its being cut

Ok, it seems everyone has had a successful run with these. I bought one, but everytime, and no-matter what I used, it ALWAYS ripped. Any recomendations? I did the same things you did!

I have this machine …
I have this machine and have tried everything and it doesnt work. It rips and tears the gum paste no matter what I do. Don’t buy it!

You can see that her mat is scored too when she shows it. It did the same to my mat and I had the lightest pressure setting, so I don’t think you can stop it. In the book they say a mat does around 20-30 full sheet cuts and then will need to be replaced.

your friend was …
your friend was right, gum paste is completely edible, you just usually don’t want to eat it. It is basically the exact same icing as fondant, but with the addition of a chemical called Tylose. Tylose helps the fondant become much more elastic, so it is able to be rolled much thinner than fondant could. Being so thin, gum paste dries faster and harder. Thats basically the only difference.

Congrats on the cricut cake machine! Im a pastry chef and can’t wait to get one!
